Funnels Clitocybe

Included genera: Ampulloclitocybe, Clitocybe, Infundibulicybe, Leucocybe, Paralepista

Funnels often have a cap depressed in the centre, becoming deeply funnel-shaped with age. Their gills usually run visibly down the stem.

  • Funnel-shaped or depressed cap
  • Decurrent gills
  • White spore print
  • Thinner flesh, no ring or volva

The funnel shape and decurrent gills matter together, but also occur in other genera. Check gill spacing, smell and habitat as well.

The group includes poisonous species that can resemble edible funnels. Species-level identification is essential.
