Morels Morchella
Included genera: Morchella, Verpa
Morels have a hollow fruitbody and a cap covered by a network of pits and ridges. They are not gilled mushrooms.
- Hollow stem and cap
- Pitted, ridged cap
- Fertile surface lines the pits
- No ring or volva
- Usually appear in spring
A lengthwise cut through a morel shows one continuous hollow chamber. Cap attachment and ridge colour vary among species.
Separate morels from false morels. Never eat an unidentified folded or ridged spring mushroom.
I have loved mushrooms since childhood, and I have also been a programmer for a long time. Combining these two hobbies, I wrote this website. Previously, I had two other mushroom identification sites, which I sold. Only one of them remains accessible today. My goal with the current site is to create an easy-to-use search and identification platform that works great both in the field and at home. I hope it brings joy to others.
